Tomas U. Delgado July 21, 1946 - October 30, 2023 Tomas Uriegas Delgado passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on October 30, 2023. He will always be remembered as a caring & loving man. He was born on July 21,1946 to the late Jose Ezparza Delgado and Trinidad Uriegas Delgado. He is a descendant of Gregorio Esparza and is an official non-combatant survivor of the “Battle of the Alamo”. He spent most of his early childhood playing baseball and football. He graduated from Southside High School. He joined the United States Marines in 1965, where he earned recognition as a Master Riffleman and was requested to be reenlisted, but due to meeting the love of his life Rosario he declined, and they started their live together. He worked at Kelly Air Force Base for 32 years. Then with his recognition for his one-of-a-kind talent and experience which got him a civilian position with Lockheed Martin, and Boeing where he retired years after. He had a love and passion for Golf and was a member of the Pan American Golf Association. He would never miss a tee time on Sunday’s and was occasionally sent home when it was raining because he thought they would play in the rain with thunder and lightning. When he couldn’t make it to golf it was due to him being ill, but he continued to play golf even after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. More than any of his accomplishments, Tomas was exceedingly proud of his family. It was known that the best thing he ever did was to marry Rosario and they had a daughter and son. Rosario who was the rock that kept him grounded in his family. Tomas loved the trail rides that would kick off the start of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. His other passion was coaching and raising his son to be a better player as well as he did to the teammates which they can pass good traits on to their own children. As one of the teammates quoted. He touched many hearts as a father figure and taught good traits not just as a coach but also to become a father figure, as he will always be remembered by all. He also stepped in for his daughter when she needed him the most. He was known by his grandsons that he was there for them as a father figure and taught them good skills to become a person of value. He showed his son and daughter in law what it means to value a marriage as he did with Rosario. As for his granddaughter’s, he gave them the True Love of a grandpa known to them as Popo that will never be forgotten as they get older as young ladies that True Love will continue. Tomas was preceded in death by his parents; Jose & Trinidad Delgado and his brother; Joe Delgado Jr (JD); his nephew; Joseph Delgado (Joey). He is survived by his wife of a loving 52 years, Rosario Delgado; his sister and brother in law; Consuelo & Alfred Pacheco; his daughter Cythina & Michael Rodriguez; his son Detective Tomas & Yolanda Delgado Jr., five grandchildren, Esteban Tomas Garza, David Antonio (Raquel) Garza; Jordan Alexander Romero; Arabella Rose Delgado, Adalynn Marie Delgado; great-granddaughters; Sophia Marie & Aleena Rose Garza. and nieces and nephews. Delgado family is very grateful to Guiding Light Hospice, especially Aaron, Shaulea, and Katie, for the compassion and care they showed to Tomas and his wife Rosario also to all of his family while taking care of him the past year. A Family visitation will be on Tuesday Novembers 07, 2023 5:00-8:00pm, Rosary will be recited at 6:00pm that evening. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 08, 2023, depart Mission Park South Chapels at11:45am for a12:15pm Mass at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church 1314 Fair Ave #1, San Antonio, TX 78223 with burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
