Tributes

Our dear and beloved father, Tomas C. Lopez, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 8, 2006 at the age of 83. He was born September 22, 1923 in Edna, Tx and grew up in Robstown, Tx. In death, he is reunited with his devoted and faithful wife of 63 years, Maria de La Luz Lopez, who passed away on June 11, 2006. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Alberta Lopez, siblings; Toribio, Pascual, Juan Cruz and Manuel Lopez, Luisa Tristan, Luciana Cardona, Agapita Rodriguez, Filomena Lopez and Juanita Torres, children; Tomasita and Jesse Lopez and grandchildren; Rosario Garcia, Elizabeth Gonzales and Benjamin Lopez. He is survived by his brothers, Eduardo Delfina Lopez of McMinnville, OR, and Juan Josefina Lopez of Dallas, Tx. He is also survived by his children; Maria Saul Gonzales, Leandra Samuel Garza, Tomas Lopez Jr., Jesse Sandra Lopez, Sylvia Breland and Tony Lopez, of San Antonio, Tx, Catalina Carlos Gonzales, Lupe Richard Olivarez and Tomasa Garcia, of Corpus Christi, Tx, Eva Luis Mayorga of Greenfield, CA and Alice Ed Jones of Lytle, Tx, 33 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other beloved family members including, Delfino J. Martinez, Diana Lopez, Pearl Lopez and Tracy Breland. In his early years, he was a migrant trucker and then went on to be a steelworker at ASARCO American Smelting and Refining Co. in Corpus Christi, where he retired after 35 years of service. Mr. Lopez did his Cursillo as a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He and his wife, retired to the Lytle and San Antonio area. He was briefly employed with the San Antonio Light Newspaper. Affectionately known as Apa, he always enjoyed playing his accordion. Inspired by his older accomplished accordion and bajo sexto playing brothers, he learned to play by ear. He instilled in his children, the importance of a good work ethic as he never missed a day of work. He had an incredible sense of humor and could find laughter in any situation, a trait that his children have greatly inherited. He was a firm believer in helping those who had a need. We will miss him dearly.
