Tributes

Tonda Lee Pratt died on Saturday, February 17, 2007, in San Antonio, Texas. She was the daughter of Joan Fuller Wittkamper and Ferrill Wittkamper and was born on November 11, 1947, in Elwood, Indiana. She attended Curtisville Elementary School and was graduated from Wendell Willkie High School in Elwood, Indiana. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana and a Master of Science degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. She met her future husband while attending the Graduate School at Butler University. She was an elementary school teacher in Indianapolis before she moved to San Antonio where she was an elementary school teacher and school counselor for 30 years in the North East ISD. Tonda was also a Licensed Profession Counselor in Texas. For many years she coordinated the community volunteers program where she was school counselor at Northwood Elementary School. Tonda was a member of Alamo Heights Christian Church where she served as deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Gerald B. Pratt; daughter, Emily Pratt of Santa Monica, California; son, Jarvis Pratt of Lubbock, Texas; parents, Joan and Ferrill Wittkamper of Elwood, Indiana; brother, Duane Wittkamper and wife, Debbie, of Kingwood, Texas; sister Debra Leathers and husband, Jeffrey, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and brother-in-law, Jim Fulkerson of Kirklin, Indiana. Tonda was preceded in death by her older sister, Karen Fulkerson. Tonda was an eight year survivor of ovarian cancer. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Fred Massey and staff for their devotion in managing Tondas care throughout her years as a cancer survivor; Dr. Gary West and staff of the Methodist Cancer Center for managing Tondas numerous sessions of radiation therapy; Dr. Frank Fichlel, her neurosurgeon; Dr. Chaula Rana for her care in managing Tondas many sessions of physical rehabilitation; the entire staff at VistaCare for their compassionate care during Tondas last three months. The family thanks all of our friends who supported Tonda with love and prayers throughout her years as a cancer survivor. Tondas family will remember her as a listening, sharing, loving, helping person who demonstrated genuine concern for the people around her. Emily and Jarvis said it in She was a good mom. Services Visitation will be from 5:00 8:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2007 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 4301 Cherry Ridge. A memorial service will be at Alamo Heights Christian Church, 6435 N. New Braunfels in San Antonio at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 24, 2007, with the Reverend Bruce Williamson and the Reverend Nancy McDougall officiating. At a later date, Tondas ashes will be spread on a favorite childhood play area on the family farm near Elwood, Indiana. On Saturday afternoon, February 24, 2007, family and friends are invited to a time of extended visiting and sharing at the home of Tonda and Gerald from around 1:30 PM until sundown.
