On Tuesday September 21st in the morning hours, our beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend Veronica Zaragoza-Castaño entered into eternal rest at the age of 43 from unknown natural causes. A San Antonio native, she was born to parents Edmundo and Eloise and lovingly raised on the south side of the city. Preceded in death by her mother Eloise in September of 2019, Veronica is survived by her soulmate and husband Mario L. Castaño. She also leaves behind her father Edmundo, sisters Elisa, Yvette and Dolores, as well as countless devoted friends and family members. Veronica was a genuine, rare and uniquely wonderful person. She embodied the ability to walk into a room and light up everyone. She radiated with inner and outer beauty. She epitomized life, laughter and love. She loved endlessly. She loved her husband, family, and friends so deeply that one couldn’t help but feel that love when around her. Being an Auntie to her nieces and nephews was one of her favorite roles in life and she also gave that wonderful love to her precious fur babies who had her heart. As fate would have it, Veronica found the true love of her life. It was when Veronica and friends happened to be at the place where Mario was working that they met and saw each other frequently, until one day, they would lock eyes and lips in front of a crowd of strangers. For sixteen beautiful years, they shared a united life of love. They remained inseparable until the moment her soul left her body. Veronica followed her heart and ultimately found her passion in the art of hair styling and beautification. She worked for Newby’s hair salon for 23 years, where she touched many people’s lives in so many ways. Transforming people’s hair was her way of helping them grow confidence and feel beautiful and happy. She loved her work and her clients, some of which had been with her since the start. She made amazing, long-lasting friendships with her coworkers, whom she considered family. Though all who knew Veronica are devastated by this loss, there is reason to rejoice as she is in heaven with the Father. A rosary will be recited, followed by a funeral mass, on Saturday October 9th, 2021 at 11a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church located at 236 E. Petaluma Blvd. 78221. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Veronica’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or the San Antonio Humane Society.
