Wayne Douglas Rolin, affectionately referred to as ‘Paw Paw’ or ‘Pop’ by his family, born in Purcell, Oklahoma, died peacefully in San Antonio surrounded by loving family at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Henry Rolin and Velma Faye McCollom Rolin, brother Bobby Rolin, beloved in-laws Henry and Roma Zerm, and Chris Sr. and Dottie Brandes, Alfred Zerm, and others. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years Barbara LaNelle Zerm Rolin; daughters Suzan (Scott) McCune, Donna (Maria) Rolin, and Liz Hernandez (honorary); son Wayne Derek Rolin; 10 grandchildren (Scott Wayne [Jennifer], Derek Anthony, Ryan, Nicolas, LaNelle, Ethan [honorary], Rory, Jeter, Aubrey, and Alex); 2 great-grandchildren (Keith and Emilee); brothers Gerald and John; sister-in-law Betty; nephew Chris Jr., niece Sandy; plus numerous other dear family and friends. Wayne was a dedicated business man; prolific reader of history and crime; avid sports fan particularly of the Cowboys, Spurs, Astros, Rangers, UT football, and any sports in which his kids and grandkids took interest. He adopted the NY Yankees only after attending his daughter’s graduation at Yankee Stadium. Wayne loved to travel especially to anywhere in Oklahoma where he could find family (and blackjack casinos), the Texas coast, Lake Mathis, Mexico, Las Vegas, California, Philadelphia, NYC, Newport, and Charleston. This dedication to him of his daughter’s dissertation echoes a most common description of Wayne by all who knew him: “To my father, who instilled in me at an early age, an undying curiosity, endless passion for knowledge, and a love of stories.” He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
