Fernandez William Baranda Fernandez, known to all as Billy, passed away November 11, 2008. After a lengthy illness God has welcomed him into his kingdom. Billy was born July 15, 1961 at the William Beaumont Hospital, Ft. Bliss, Texas, and was a life-long resident of San Antonio. Bill attended schools in the Northside Independent School District and later attended San Antonio Community College and Texas A&M University. He was a very hard worker who loved construction work and sales. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy Lopez, his children Cynthia Watts, Rachael Watts and William Chapman B. Fernandez and grandson Ethan Leach. He is also survived by his loving parents Raul and Sylvia Fernandez and siblings Monica Fernandez and Michael B. Fernandez. Bill was loved by all his aunts, uncles, cousins and the many friends who visited him during his illness and often expressed his gratitude by sharing with family how it warmed his heart. His loving heart remains with ours as we mourn his loss. An avid outdoorsman, his greatest joy in life was the time he spent hunting or fishing at the ranch of his beloved grandparents, Willie and Lupita Peña. A Memorial Service celebrating Billy's life will be held on Thursday, November 13th at 7: 30 PM and a Mass in his memory on Friday, November 14th at 10:00 AM, both to be held at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Road. Immediately following the mass, there will be a reception at the McDonald Center located on the church grounds. His ashes will be released to all of God's beautiful creations in a private ceremony at the ranch in Zapata County, Texas. His spirit will live on under the beautiful Texas skies with the starry nights he loved, as well as with God, in whom he had so much faith. The family is grateful to The University of Texas Health Science Center CTRC oncology team, especially Dr. Anand Karnad and staff for their professional and compassionate care. Special thanks to the Christus hospice team for their outreach and care during a very difficult time.
