William Harrison Hobbs, went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2015. He was born on 10/20/34 in San Antonio, Texas to Walter and Mary Hobson Hobbs. He is survived by his wife, Vernice Hobbs to whom he was married 41 years: daughters, Sheri Lynn Funk and Lisa Kay Hobbs, son, Kenneth Lee Hobbs; and grandchildren, Seth Funk, Chelsea Silvas and Richard Hobbs. During his early years, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy, May 1952 - September 1954 and recently enjoyed attending the U.S.S. Rochester CA-124 Reunion in San Antonio. After his honorable discharge, Bill trained to be a radiology tech at the Robert Green Hospital. He continued to work at the "Green.". In 1958 he started at the Baptist Memorial Hospital and was Director of Radiology when he retired in 1997. Bill loved working at the Baptist during his 39 years and made many friends with whom he continued to hold dear to him. Bill was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and participated in the S.T.A.R.S Men's Retreat in November of 2006. He and his wife, Vernice, were part of a life group from Concordia where new friendships were developed. Bill's passions were working in his yard, golfing, fishing, riding his motor cycle, and going on gambling trips with family and friends. Also, a yearly trip to Nebraska was a must to visit Vernice's parents, her siblings and their children at the family farm, all of whom he loved very much. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will always be remembered for his light-hearted humor. He was a very kind and caring individual and always ready to help anyone in need. During the past year of Bill's illness, his life was immeasurably made happier with the visits from family and friends, especially at his 80th Birthday celebration. The family wishes to thank the physicians who treated Bill over the years, especially Douglas Jenkins, M.D., Thomas Eades, M.D., Brian Kaiser, M.D., Ronald Gotanco, M.D., and Rodney Carry, M..D. SERVICES Visitation will be held February 18, 2015 between 6-8pm at Mission Park North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. Services will be held at 2pm February 19, 2015 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Road, San Antonio, Texas 78258. Burial will be private at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery with full military honors at later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice or to the Concordia Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
