William Henry Wilburn was born in Toby, Texas, on Jan. 8, 1926, and passed away on Dec.15, 2006, in his wifes arms and surrounded by his children and grandchildren after his 4 yr battle with Cancer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents: John and Ophelia Wilburn and his sister Elizabeth Wilburn. He is survived by his wife of 50 yrs, Lupe Rogerio Wilburn; his children Joseph, James, Andrew, Rebecca, Lupe Ann, Lisa and Paul Wilburn; and his grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Avi, Holly and Jake Wilburn. He served in K company in the US Marine Corps, March 1944 to Nov. 1946, during WW II. He participated in operations against enemy forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, and in the occupation of China. His unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for their heroic work. He worked with a catholic youth group doing charity work before going into civil service at Kelly AFB for 30 yrs. Within those 30 yrs, he worked as a printer and a quality assurance inspector and he organized the American Federation of Government Employees Local Union #1617, serving as President between 1963-64. After retirement from Kelly AFB, he worked for Burns Security Services as a guard while staying active within his church and his childrens school activities of band and sports. He enjoyed and was proud of all of his childrens successes because they displayed what he believed in the most ----his love of FAMILY UNITY! Thanks to the Vista Care Hospice staff and his nurse, Sara Davis, and to the VA Hospital staffers Dr. Haile and social worker Mr. Hamilton for their help. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Wednesday-December 20, 2006 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, with a Rosary recited at 7:00PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. On Thursday-December 21, 2006, a procession will be departing the funeral home at 12:30PM, arriving at Little Flower Catholic Church, 906 Kentucky, San Antonio, Texas 78201, for a 1:00PM Funeral Mass. Burial will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Marine Corps Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Flower Catholic Church Building Fund.
