Willis G.Bill Morton, Jr. passed away Monday, November 13th, 2006 from complications arising from Myelodysplasia Syndrome he had been battling for the last few years. He was 80 years old. He died peacefully surrounded by members of his family. He was a loving husband, father, and Granddaddy and his death is a great loss to our family. He was born May 2, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas. A child of the Depression, he lived with various family members before settling in Somerset where he graduated from high school in 1944. Bill served in the United States Air Force in the Pacific during World War II and again during the Korean War in the Air Defense Command. He was proud of his military service and remained patriotic all of his life. In 1947, he married Edith Inez Dale of Beaumont and they had four children together. He spent countless hours supporting his children by being either directly involved in or attending sporting and academic activities for the better part of two decades. His father, Willis G. Morton, Sr., his mother, Flossie Jones Morton Cope and his brother, Ernest Dwayne Cope all preceded him in death. His half-sister Shirley Morton Bean resides in Colorado. He leaves behind, Jo, his loving wife of 22 years and her children Barbara and Donny. His children, Ellen and Robert Kurz of Somerset, Randy and Melissa Morton of Diana, Pamela and Rodney Roberson of Nacogdoches, Ron and Carolyn Morton of Longview will miss him deeply. He also will be missed by his seventeen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His newest love and constant companion, Mimi, will miss all of the treats and their morning walks. Our family wishes to express our gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses and other health care providers that gave such kind and thoughtful care at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, in particular, Doctors Kalter, Kayser, White and Mullins. We also would like to thank Doctors Chastain, Holcomb, Frase, Duncan, C. R. Martin and Elhalwagi in Longview, Texas, for the care provided over the past few years. Many thanks also to the nurses and staff at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday-November 18, 2006 at 3:00PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North , 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78230.
