Wilma “Jo” Thweatt, age 98, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 16, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Alonzo Thweatt, and her son, Gary Thweatt. Wilma, or “Jo” as friends lovingly called her, was born on April 3, 1927, to parents Moody Jacob “Moot” Moore and Martha Jane “Janie” Page Moore. She spent her early years in Polk County, in the Barnum Community, before the family moved to the banks of Wolf Creek in the Emilee community near Colmesneil, TX. During her formative years along the banks of Wolf Creek, Wilma cherished childhood memories of her hard-working parents, who loved the Lord and faithfully attended church. She often recalled the days when, as younger children, they picked cotton in the Barnum community, shelled peas, and helped with various chores around the homestead in the Emilee community. Wilma shared these treasured memories with her beloved siblings: brothers L.B. Hanks, Lloyd Moore, and Jerry Mark Moore; and sisters, Virginia Batson, Betty Jean Milton, Iris Gall, Maurice Powell, and Kathy Cowart. Wilma often fondly remarked - more than once- that there was never a harsh word spoken between them. • In adulthood, Wilma Jo made her home in San Antonio with her husband, Al, where she enjoyed a lifelong career in real estate. Wilma had a true passion for her work as a real estate agent and was part of the “million dollar club”. She took great joy in creating a warm, loving home for her family. In her later years, after the passing of her beloved Al, Wilma found herself navigating life on her own. With time, she was blessed to meet Mr. Ron Rainey, a retired Air Force veteran who became a trusted and cherished friend. The two quickly became inseparable-sharing meals, traveling, and simply enjoying each other’s company at home as dear friends and companions. Wilma and Ron enjoyed many trips back to the familiar stomping grounds of Colmesneil, visiting family and friends who still resided there. Ron remained her constant companion until the Lord called him home in January 2022. After his passing, Wilma moved into Assisted Living, where she found joy in making new friends and sharing her warmth with those around her. She especially treasured Sunday visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. Wilma remained poised and graceful to the very end – always put together, with her makeup on and hair styled, ready to face each day. Wilma’s faith, warmth, and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and strength that will be cherished by her family and friends. Her gentle spirit and joyful heart will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all. She is survived by her son, Roger Thweatt, and wife, Kathleen; grandson Charles Thweatt and his wife, Nati, sister Iris Gal and her son, Brian; as well as great-grandchildren, Arianna, Allyssa and Ashley, numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt and sincere appreciation to Rhonda Rainey Crennen, Ron’s daughter, for her unwavering and loving care of our dear Wilma. Her tireless efforts will be forever cherished by the family.
