Woodrow Landon Simpson, Sr., born January 17, 1918, was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at the age of 93 years old. He now joins his loving wife of sixty years, Lillian Marie "Honey Gal" RealHolmes Simpson. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Landon "DOC" Simpson and Lillie Willie SmithSimpson Jackson; his brothers and sister -in-law, James Nelson "JN" and Ethel Simpson, William "Bill" Simpson, and his sister and brother-in-law Cleora and Odell Luckie, brothers-in-law Lawrence Real, James Real, Anthony Real, Robert Schaefer; T.C. Freedman, and step-son, Milton Anthony Holmes. Woodrow L. Simpson, Sr., "Woodie," is survived by his sister, Oleta Freedman, sisters-in-law Emily Simpson, Lorine Real, Rita Real, Mary Jane Schaefer, daughter and son-in-law, June and Charles Lammons; sons and daughters-in-law, Woodrow Jr. and Sandy Simpson; Danny Ray Simpson; Keith and Cindy Simpson; Ronald and Nancy Simpson; and Dorothy Holmes; Sixteen grandchildren: Roxanne Huron and husband James; Milton Holmes, Jr.; Kimberly Friedman; Jennifer Holmes, Leanne Marshall and husband Justin; Jeffrey Holmes; Rebecca Simpson; Nick Simpson and wife Christian; Matthew McClellan; Keith Simpson, Jr.; Ryan Simpson; Lorelei Simpson; Melissa Simpson; Scott Simpson; Sean Simpson, and Kathryne Simpson; ten great-grandchildren: Jeremy Huron; Brandon Huron; Bethany Holmes; Tiffany Holmes; Gellar Simpson; Jacob Marshall; William Marshall; Gavin Simpson; Devin Simpson and Kaitlyn Guy. Woodie was a W.W.II Veteran, a member of the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, B Company, and he was awarded the Purple Heart with two oak-leaf clusters. He retired from Civil Service at Ft. Sam Houston in 1983. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 539. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. His hobbies included bowling, fishing, golfing, cards and dominoes with friends. He enjoyed attending his Army reunions and Simpson Family reunions. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at The Frank Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home, VistaCare Hospice and Connally Memorial Hospital, for their dedication and loving care extended to Woodrow L. Simpson, Sr. Services Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. ~ 9:00 P.M. with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 P.M. at Dellcrest Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Dellcrest Funeral Home with interment following at St. Jerome Cemetery, Real Road and FM 1516. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Frank Tejeda State Veterans Home, and St. Jerome Catholic Church building fund.
