Barbara (Schneider) Berger
May 7, 1932 - May 8, 2022
Barbara (Schneider) Berger of San Antonio passed away on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022, the day after her 90th birthday, in her home surrounded by family. Barbara was born in Bocar, in the Banat, Yugoslavia on May 7, 1932 to Josef and Barbara (Barbie) Schneider. She immigrated on her own at the age of 19 to Chicago, Illinois in 1952 where she met her husband of 66 years, Christoph Berger. They grew up within 20 miles of each other in Yugoslavia but did not meet until both were living in Chicago. They were married in Bremen, Germany in 1955. As an Air Force family, they lived in England, France, Kansas, Virginia, Germany, and Alabama. After retirement they settled in San Antonio. Barbara enjoyed gardening, crocheting, listening to Engelbert Humperdinck, and was a wonderful cook and baker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Nikolaus, Josef, and Stefan, and daughter-in-law Melinda. She is survived by her husband, Christoph Berger, her three children, sons Robert (Diane) Berger and Steven (Karen Feser) Berger, and her daughter Barbara Berger, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. We are especially thankful for our devoted caregivers: Loana, Karli, Julia, Estela, and Debbie. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. on May 18th at Mission Park Cherry Ridge. A private burial service for family and close friends will take place at 10:15 am on May 19th at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to hospice.
