Cruz Blanco Martinez, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, went to be with the Lord on December 1, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born on November 27, 1942 in Urbana, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his mother, Candelaria Blanco Martinez; brothers Juan Martinez, Jose Martinez, Nino Martinez, Richard Martinez and Jesse Martinez. Cruz is survived by his life partner Grace Zenedejas; daughters Debbie Clement (Clark) and Amanda Romero (Joseph); sons Mike Martinez and Chris Martinez; sister Frances Perez; brother Tony Martinez and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cruz served in the U.S. Army from 1960 until 1968 when he was honorably discharged rank of Sergeant. While in the Army, he traveled to many places all over the world including Korea, Panama and Vietnam where he served in First Air Calvary Division. Cruz received multiple medals along with the Purple Heart while proudly serving his country. After being honorably discharged, Cruz moved his family to California where he made lifelong friends and worked as a machinist with Johnson Pump. In 1988, his company relocated him back to his home state of Texas where he stayed after retirement. In the days after his time served, Cruz enjoyed golfing, fishing, hand carving replica military airplanes, playing bingo and spoiling his dogs. But more than anything, Cruz enjoyed spending time with his family in San Antonio, Dallas and Indiana. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church with a procession to depart the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
