Dorothy "Dotty" Nell Borchardt Deskin
April 3, 1936 - February 28, 2022
Dorothy “Dotty” Nell Borchardt Deskin, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 85 on February 28, 2022. Dorothy was born on April 3, 1936 in Alice, Texas to Bert Borchardt and Emilie Kneten Borchardt. She became a child of God through baptism in Westhoff, Texas, faithfully serving God throughout her life. Growing up, Dorothy was one of three sisters who enjoyed living on the farm in Orange Grove, Texas and doing chores with her dad; she always said that she was her daddy’s little tomboy. Following graduation from high school, Dorothy attended Texas Lutheran College (now known as Texas Lutheran University) before beginning employment in the Accounting Department at the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation (TxDOT), where she remained until her retirement in 1995 after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Dorothy was a selfless, strong and amazing person who cherished her children, family, and church. She was a devoted friend to many and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she came in contact with. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, being outdoors, gardening in her flower beds, embroidering, watching old movies and westerns, and traveling. She also enjoyed baking and decorating wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes, and was so good at this that many knew her as the “cake lady”. Dorothy was a dedicated servant of God and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church before transferring to Highland Park Lutheran Church. Although she was unable to attend church services in person due to the COVID pandemic, she faithfully watched both Pastor John Hagee and the First Baptist Church services every Sunday morning on television. Dorothy is loved and survived by her son Michael Mitchell, daughters D’Neece Mitchell (Michael Iltis) and Laura Deskin, grandchildren Joshua (Taylor) Iltis and Kayla Deskin, great-grandson Breckson Iltis, sisters Della (Curtis) Hicks and Earline Trinkle, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends. She is now resting in peace in the arms of the Lord with her parents Bert and Emilie Borchardt, son Bryan “Bill” Mitchell, and brother-in-law Robert Trinkle.
