Dr. Daniel Edwin Pratt World renowned chemist and expert on naturally occurring antioxidants and flavinoids. Born: February 7, 1924; parents Daniel and Carol Druscilla Wyatt Pratt. B.S. Chemistry, Florida State University and University of Georgia, graduated Magna Cum Laude, 1950; Master Of Science in Food Science and Chemistry, graduated Magna Cum Laude 1951; Honored as Nuclear Science Fellow, 1951; Ph.D. Chemistry and Food Science, Florida State University, graduated with highest distinction; post graduate research and teaching University of Massachusetts. Married Mana Clariece Peacock Pratt, August 29, 1960; one daughter Mana Lisa Pratt Benson. Distinguished Professor of Chemistry University of Georga 1955-1961; Adjunct Professor Food Law Emory University; Research Food Scientist and Professor, University of Wisconsin 1964-1969; Research Scientist Food Science and Nutrition, Purdue University 1976-1992. Honorary/Visiting Research Scientist, Natick Research and Development Command 1980. United States Delegate International Congress Food Scientist, Tokyo, Japan 1978. Consulted to the Government of Mainland China and received special recognition for his services. Dr. Daniel Edwin Pratt Scholarship for Outstanding Student In Foods and Nutrition, in perpetuity. Arthor/Co-Arthor numerous books on Lipids, Antioxidants, Flavinoids and Carcinogens. Over 250 scientific publications same area of expertise. Over 150 Ph.D. and graduate students major Professor. Received an award in recognition of his service as Food consultant to Mainland, China. Dr. Daniel Edwin Pratt died at his home the morning of January 7th. He survived by his daughter Mana Lisa Pratt Benson, his brother Richard Pratt and wife Barbara, his sister Martha Whitcomb and husband Harold, and his son-in-law Larry Benson. He is pre-deceased by his brother Harry Pratt who is survived by his wife Jane. Services A visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00PM today, January 9, 2007 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral services will begin at 6:30 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Interment services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 12, 2007 at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, Arkansas, where he will be laid to rest.
