    Guillermo S. Aguirre

    June 1, 1925 - April 6, 2022

Guillermo Sanchez Aguirre was born in Marfa, Texas on June 1, 1925 to Carlos Aguirre and Pilar Sanchez. He is survived by the love of his life Carmen Lara Aguirre. They were married for 74 years 8 months. He was a beloved father to Mario Aguirre (Miranda) San Antonio, TX; Yolanda Sotelo (Fred) Buda, TX; preceded in death by his youngest daughter Nancy Velasquez (Ronnie) Odessa, TX. Gemo was the first born of seven siblings; two brothers and four sisters who precede him in death. Blessed by one grandson Brian Guerra (Houston) and four granddaughters Cathy Velasquez (Merriville, Indiana); Jennifer Barber (Buda); Kris Sifuentes (John) Midland; Candice Dominguez (Jay)Odessa; and ten (10) great-grand-children and one (1) great-great-granddaughter. “Big Popo” Mr. Aguirre went by several names from family, friends and acquaintances, his beloved wife “Big Nanas’ ” (Carmen) term of endearment was “Daddy”, his children went with dad, his grand-kids gave him the name “Grumpy”. Relatives, friends and acquaintances knew him as Tio (uncle), and of course Gemo for Guillermo but at the end of the day he would say “My name is G. S. Aguirre!!” At the tender age of 17 he was called to serve his country during World War II and served at sea as a gunner in the United States Navy. He was a devout Catholic and a man of God, he sought Christ in Love, and walked in Faith and Hope! Family, friends and others sought his prayers, knowledge and wisdom. He and “Big Nana” were prayer warriors and brought solace to many individuals over the years because of their devotion to prayer. His longevity of life was lead by his desire to draw people to a life of prayer and salvation. His loss of vision and impairment didn’t stop him from pursuing the Word of God and following His will. One of Popo’s highlights in life was retreating to the Lake House in Brownwood, TX it was a gathering place for family, friends and guests. A place to rejuvenate allowing them to quite before God to revive their minds, bodies and spirits. Grumpy was a very quiet man, had a great memory, he loved his wife (Nana) until his last breath. He always professed peace for himself and his family. Unity was a must for the family unit. His favorite bible verse was Galatians 5: 22, 25: “ But the fruit of Holy Spirit-----is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness: If we live by the Holy Spirit, let us walk by the Spirit-----If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.” He may not have had an education in academics but he was a master of life and well versed in Christianity. He believed that we are God’s gift to the world and what we become and do for others is our gift to God!
