Lilia was an avid reader and enjoyed legal thrillers and mysteries. Her love of reading led her to become a librarian aide in the South San Antonio School District where she worked at Kindred Elementary and Athens Elementary throughout her career. During several summers she worked at Kindred with the summer Parks and Recreation program and coached track and field and softball and basketball teams. In the 1990’s she was appointed by city councilman, Frank Wing, to the San Antonio Literacy Council. She also served on the San Antonio Library Board of Trustees. As a Library Board member she participated in overseeing the planning of the downtown public library. After her retirement she continued her love of reading and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jesus. She particularly enjoyed visits to the coast and they often took long drives in and around San Antonio and enjoyed scenic views in the hill country. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting nurseries and was always tending to the plants and flowers in her yard. Another passion of hers was to always create festive holidays by decorating her home for each holiday season and hosting holiday gatherings. She and Jesus began collecting Christmas village pieces and soon they had a grand village that was displayed every year, complete with an electric train and lights. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she never forgot a birthday and showered them with gifts and love.
