Sofia G. Mungia

April 17, 1928 - May 2, 2022

Sofia G. Mungia was born in La Vernia, Texas to Guadalupe Valdez and Francisco Garcia on April 17, 1928, and went to be with the lord on May 2, 2022, at the age of 94. Sofia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jose A. Mungia, sons Joe Mungia Jr, infant son Anthony Mungia, grandson David Mungia and son-in law Carl E. Dillard. Survivors include her loving children, Helen Mungia (Joe), Carrie Mungia Beavers, Frank Mungia (Mary), Cindy Mungia Dillard, Ernie Mungia (Esther), Andy Mungia (Esmeralda). Grandchildren Patrice Horton (Omaru) John Paniagua (Noelia), Rick Beavers (Rebecca), Bryan Beavers (Gwen), Kevin Beavers (Colyn), Frank Simon Mungia, Stephanie Chavez, Isaac Alvear, Danielle Wayman (Alex), Keith Nelms (Lacey), Eric Mungia (Jennifer), Edward Mungia (Kelli), E. J. Mungia (Samantha), Phillip Mungia. Great grandchildren, Shara, Adahlia, Alinda, Devon, Maja, JT, Sofia, Nick, Kason, Landon, Mia, Nathan, Eric Jr., Mason, Maddie, Myles, Gavin, Morgan, Camden, Kaden, Archer, and Marley. Sofia's 1st cousin Cookie Reyes and numerous loving relatives and friends. Sofia was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and great grandmother. She spent the majority of her life raising her children and grandchildren and maintaining a loving household. She was a nanny to many. Sofia was involved in the PTA the entire time her children were in school. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, working on puzzles, and watching her favorite Naked & Afraid show (lol). Pallbearers are Rick Beavers, Bryan Beavers, Kevin Beavers, Keith Nelms, Danielle Wayman, Edward Mungia and E. J. Mungia and John Paniagua. Due to Ft. Sam’s strict floral policy, we ask that a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society cancer.org or a plant that can be enjoyed at home in memory of MOM. Visitation will begin on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church with a procession from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Ft.
