Carmen Cantu Rivero passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 15, 2015 surrounded by her family. Born August 1, 1938 in Esseville, Texas. Carmen graduated from Pawnee High School in 1957. She moved to San Antonio in 1958 where she met the love of her life, Robert Rivero. They married in 1960 and were married for 55 years. Carmen loved being a Commercial Insurance Underwriter and worked for several companies including USAA, Nationwide, USF&G, and American States. She also enjoyed teaching insurance courses at San Antonio College. Carmen enjoyed serving others. She was PTA president at Mary Hull Elementary, Anson Jones Middle School, and John Jay High School during the 1970's. She was a Parishoner at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and served as chairperson over the annual church festival for several years; she was also very involved in the Financial Committee of both the San Antonio Archdiocese and at the Church. Her hobbies included reading, dancing, and playing bunco with her bunco group for more than thirty years. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Carmen was the cornerstone of her family as she was always devoted to them through her loving care. Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Margarita Cantu, sisters Juanita and Teresa Cantu and Martha Cantu Faris. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert; daughters, Catherine Rivera Julio and Christina Benavides Patrick; grandchildren, Shannon and Dana Benavides; step-granddaughter, Tiffany Rivera. She is also survived by her brother, Joe Cantu Sue, sisters, Dolores Paxton Allen, Helen Rendon Butch, and Alma Aguirre Raymond, along with many nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank Carmen's caregiver, Gabriela Herrera for helping to take such great care of her! SERVICES Visitation will begin at 5pm on Monday, October 19, 2015. Rosary to follow at 7pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr. A 10am Mass will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4222 SW Loop 410. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH 10 West. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friendship House Society of St. Vincent de Paul at the Church.
