Denise Lea Powers, age 61, went home to be with her Lord on August 9, 2026. Denise lived a life filled with joy, kindness, friendship, and love, touching the hearts of all who knew her. Denise found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing board games, Yahtzee, and bingo, and could often be found enjoying a good movie, dancing, or sharing meals with her housemates and friends. Her favorite meal was enchiladas with rice and beans, always accompanied by a Diet Coke. Her smile and laughter brought warmth to every gathering, and she treasured the friendships she made throughout her life. As a young girl, Denise enjoyed attending sporting events with her father, who was a coach. She enthusiastically shook her pom-poms from the stands, cheering on the teams with excitement and pride. Her love of sports stayed with her throughout her life as she faithfully cheered for her beloved San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. Denise arrived at Silver Quail Group Home in October 2000 and made it her home for nearly 26 years. There, she became much more than a resident; she became family. Her cousin, Helen Blocker, lovingly told the staff that they were Denise's family, and everyone embraced her as such. Denise's gentle spirit, kind heart, and loving nature made her deeply loved by those who cared for her each day. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather, and brother. Denise is survived by her cousins, who cherished her dearly and will forever remember her sweet and gentle nature. She shared a particularly special bond with her cousin, Helen Blocker, who never missed sending Denise a card for her birthday and holidays. Those thoughtful gestures brought Denise tremendous joy and always left her smiling from ear to ear. Though Denise's presence will be greatly missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, happiness, and unconditional love. Denise will be laid to rest beside her mother and father in Hondo, Texas. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23 Denise's family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and rejoicing in the presence of her Lord.
