Marvell Diana Medina Marvell born September 2, 1939, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of October 22, 2011, at the age of 72 after a courageous 16 month battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her family at her side. Diana was a lifelong resident of San Antonio. Born to Arthur A. Medina, Sr. and Julia G. Medina. She attended St. Mary's Catholic grade school and then Providence High School. She worked for the City of San Antonio for 40 years and was a NIOSA volunteer for 30 years. Diana was a remarkable person who possessed a loving and outgoing personality. She always had a way of making people laugh and smile. She met life's challenges with a sense of humor, grace and dignity. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and was always there for them in good times as well as difficult times. Her laughter, smile and presence will be greatly missed, especially at our holiday gatherings but we know her spirit will always be alive with us. She truly was the epitome of what a Mother should be, devoted to her daughters and supporting them in all they did without judgment. She is survived by her mother Julia G. Medina, husband Ernest C. Marvell, her sister Anita Moke and her brother-in-law Richard A. Moke of Houston, her brother Dr. Arthur A. Medina, Jr. and sister-in-law Claudia M. Medina of San Antonio. Her three daughters Anita Jo Medina, Laura Medina Groniger, son-in-law Derek J. Groniger of San Antonio and Mary Margaret Hubert of Los Angeles, CA. Her granddaughters Angela Vellion and husband Joseph and Melissa J. Medina. Her grandson Luke A. Groniger and her great-grandson Max G. Veillon. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew. Sandi Johnson and her husband Randy Johnson and their children Hunter, Adam and Julia all of Houston, Diana Chadwick and her husband Danny and their children Zachary and Stephanie all of Waco. Her only nephew Richard Moke of San Antonio nieces Christina Medina of Kansas City, MO and Jessica Medina Koertiz and husband Blake and their son Colton all of San Antonio. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Scott Ulmer and his staff at the START Center of Stone Oak for their compassionate care throughout her visits and treatments. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society, the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston or any Cancer Foundation of your choice. Service Visitation will begin on Friday, October 28, 2011, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM October 29, 2011 at the Fred J. Tips Mausoleum Chapel at Mission Burial Park North. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park North.
