Our family is deeply saddened at the loss of our beloved Edward (Ed) Martinez, whose loving spirit touched many lives. Ed went home to be with our Heavenly Father at the age of 78. He was born on November 25, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas and passed away on September 17, 2025, in San Antonio. He was predeceased by his parents, Pablo and Carolina Martinez. His memory will live on in his wife Margie Coronado; his son, James and wife Mari; his stepdaughter Micky Candia-Collina and husband Robert; his grandson, Jonathan and Sophie; his brothers, Rudy and wife Liz, Thomas and wife Margie, Paul and wife Ellie; as well as loving nieces and nephews. Army Captain Edward Martinez, 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles), proudly served his country with honor and received the Purple Heart Award for his wounds during an attack in Vietnam. He loved meeting other Vietnam veterans and sharing stories and experiences. Ed was known for his love of fishing, bowling, dancing, karaoke, traveling throughout Europe, playing loteria with friends and making superb Margaritas. He always looked forward to talking with his brothers on the phone and inviting them for a friendly game of poker at home. He will be remembered for his laughter, great sense of humor, joyful spirit and ability to tell jokes. Ed had a great love for all music but especially mariachi music and was a die-hard Longhorn and Dodger fan which made game days loud and exciting. Our hearts ache with the pain of his loss. But we find comfort in the beautiful memories he leaves behind. Ed was a quiet, humble worshipper who was obedient when God whispered in his ear to help strangers who needed financial help. He was always filled with calm, inner peace and tranquility. Thank you, Ed, for the incredible journey we shared. You will forever be in our hearts. May you rest in God’s loving arms till we meet again. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. followed by the Rosary at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Mission Park Medical Center, 8332 Fredericksburg Road. The Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 noon at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3907 Harry Wurzbach Road. The Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate food at the San Antonio Food Bank or a Food Pantry.
