With heavy hearts and endless love, we celebrate the life of Elisa Quiroga Avila. “Lisa” A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend whose love, strength, humor and spirit touched generations. Lisa’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She was the devoted mother of five children, Genevieve Avila-Chavez(Chon), Lucio Avila, Esmeralda Ortiz(Juan), David A. Flores(Rachelle), Javier Avila(Ashley), step-son Mario C. Rubio(Belinda) and the heart of a family whose branches continue to grow through 23 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and generations of loved ones. Though life presented Lisa with challenges she met them with resilience and determination. With the support and love of her mother Genoveva Bushman and two sisters, Lupe Guerra(Jesse) and Delia Gonzales(Alex) she helped create a village rooted in loyalty, sacrifice, laughter and unconditional love. Together they built a family bond that remains one of her greatest legacies. Lisa was fiercely protective of those she loved. Her family compared her to an elephant, an animal she adored and proudly displayed throughout her home. Like an elephant watching over its herd. Lisa carried her family in her heart and stood ready to protect them through every season of life. Her laughter was contagious, her presence unforgettable and her honesty legendary. Lisa was known for speaking her mind without hesitation. She was genuine, authentic and never pretended to be anything other than herself. She was known for her love of music and dancing, her enjoyment of watching telenovelas and movies at her apartment she affectionately called her “sorority house”. She enjoyed family gatherings and trips to the casino to try her luck at the slot machines. She found joy in being surrounded by the people she loved and rarely missed an opportunity to celebrate life’s special moments. Lisa also had a remarkable capacity for devotion. She cared deeply for her mother and father and remained a loving and faithful daughter throughout their years in a nursing home demonstrating the same unconditional love and dedication she showed to those fortunate enough to be a part of her life. For sixteen years, Lisa faced the challenge of brain tumors with extraordinary courage. She endured countless brain surgeries and obstacles, meeting each one with the strength that defined her. Yet even through those difficult years she continued to love fiercely, laugh loudly and remain the heart of her family. Lisa is preceded in death by her Grandmother, Grandson, Granddaughter, Father, Niece and two Great Grandchildren whom she loved dearly and now joins in eternal peace. While our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in the family she built, the memories she gave us, and the love she leaves behind. Her life reminds us that true strength is found in devotion, true wealth is found in family and true legacy is found in the lives we touch. Lisa’s story does not end here. It lives on in every child she raised, every grandchild she adored, every lesson she taught, every laugh she shared, every dance she enjoyed and every life she changed. Forever Loved, Forever Remembered, Forever our Mother.
