Our beloved Fannie Cardenas entered eternal rest on March 16, 2026 at the age of 90. She was born on April 10, 1935, to Benigno and Florinda (Pulido) Galvan Cardenas. Fannie is preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Jose Antonio De La Garza, Jr.; sons, Raymond David De La Garza and Robert (Bobby) De La Garza; sister, Dolores Dykes; brother, Julio Cardenas; brother, Raymond Cardenas and his wife Virginia; grandsons, Ricardo Gomez, Jr., Michael Anthony Gomez and Arthur Witherspoon, Jr.; and great-granddaughter Arianna Mariah Rodriguez. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Cynthia Gomez and Belinda De La Garza; step-daughters, Yolanda Lloyd and her husband Dennis; Beatrice Ruiz and her husband Ruben; son, Tony De La Garza and his wife Elisa; sister, Carmen Lozano; grandchildren, Kristi Narvaiz and her husband Adam, Kimberly Cuellar, Stephanie Rodriguez and her husband Jose; great-grandchildren, Elexis Narvaiz, Kaitlyn Narvaiz, Dadrian De La Garza, Adrianna Garza; Ismael and Isaiah Loera, Daniela Rodriguez, Alexander Ramirez, Michael Angel Gomez, Jose Rodriguez, Jr., Ariella Rodriguez, Joe Cuellar, and Gergory Cuellar; great-great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Noah, and Emilyn Narvaiz; numerous other loving family members and friends. Fannie knew how to live a full and adventurous life. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in civil service, dedicating 34 years of service to Kelly Air Force Base. Her generosity knew no bounds; she was always ready to lend a hand to those in need and truly had a servant’s heart. Fannie’s hobbies reflected her love of both the outdoors and creativity. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and quilting. An avid reader, she could often be found reading the newspaper from front to back each morning. Her favorite book was Gone with the Wind, and she lived her life with the same passion, strength, and conviction as Scarlett O’Hara. Fannie will be remembered for her sense of humor, her love of dancing, and her remarkable ability to light up any room she entered. Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 1, 2026 from 5:00 P.M – 8:00 P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park South.
