Gerald (aka “Jerry”) William Lehman was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 4, 1934; to Matthew and Melanie Lehman, and went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2023, at the age of 89. Jerry grew up in San Antonio and attended Central Catholic Grade School. He met Dorothy (Dottie) Joyce Dittrich while in Junior High at a skating rink and they were a pair from then on. Dottie and Jerry married on June 6, 1953, the week after she graduated high school, and they spent the next 69 years together. Jerry pursued work as a glass installer for Samuel’s Glass Company in San Antonio and later managed his own company, Lehman Glass. Jerry and Dottie started their glass business in 1958 out of their house on Aransas Street in San Antonio. They grew the company, moving to Kirby, Texas in 1966. In addition to running their glass company, Jerry served many years in the Kirby Lions Club as a charter member, giving back to community and humanitarian activities. He was a mentor for students, working with high school vocational programs related to his trade. He also served the City of Kirby for over 43 years in civic duty as councilman, mayor, mayor-pro-tem, and liaison to the Kirby Senior Center and many community events. His sense of duty to others was always on display and he found great pleasure in assisting others. His hobbies, as time allowed, included bowling, woodworking, glasswork, community service, and he loved to follow sports, especially baseball and basketball teams. Jerry treasured his family and friends, and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jerry and Dottie raised four girls and were involved with all their activities. He enjoyed children and loved to watch them grow, learn, and play. Jerry lost his eyesight in 2019 due to health conditions. Despite that handicap his mind was very sharp. Conversations with him were very informative and interesting. Even during his later years, he could easily recall location of tools in his shop, home items, particulars of items needing attention, and how to approach and remedy situations. He always wanted to stay involved. Living in the dark was hard on him, but his handicap also enlightened him to his faith and insight with others. Jerry passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 89 years of age. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy Lehman, and brother, Robert Lehman and his wife Laverne; sons-in-law, Russell McCombs and Edgar Klug. Jerry is survived by daughters, Deborra McCombs, Valerie Mick husband Richard, Adrienne Meyer husband Winston, and Delanie Klug; grandchildren, Laura Mick-Valdez husband Issac, Tabitha Garrett husband Kevin , Ashley Savage husband Ryan, Sharee DeFriese husband Colby, Jason Klug wife Katherine; great-grandchildren, Eric Castle, Miranda Castle, Josiah Valdez, Josephina Valdez, Vivian Garrett, Kenshin Garrett, Donovan Savage, Cassy DeFriese, Callen DeFriese, Landon Klug, and Marshall Klug; niece, Ardeth Lehman; and many other loving family members and friends. Visitation will begin on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St Monica Catholic Church in Converse, Texas, followed by a reception at the church from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park South at 2:00 p.m. For personal acknowledgement, you may sign the online guestbook at www.missionparks.com in the obituary section.
