Gilberto Flores Buentello, "Gilbert," of San Antonio, Texas, journeyed to walk alongside our heavenly father after 85 years on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Born November 29, 1939, in San Antonio to Librado and Alejos (Flores) Buentello, Gilbert was raised in Devine, Texas, and graduated from Devine High School and Incarnate Word College to pursue a career as a registered nurse with the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Librado Buentello, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Stella C. Buentello; his children, Gilbert and Christa Buentello and their children and grandson; Danielle and Christopher Goehring and their son; Rebecca and Rodney Hutchison and their children and grandchildren; and Javier Buentello and Kumi Sato and their children. Gilbert is also survived by his two sisters and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Gilbert will be greatly missed as a husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend. His incredible sense of humor was only eclipsed by his deep faith in God. He loved life and people. Not a day went by that he didn't make a new friend or help a new stranger, all who instantly became members of his greater family. The family would love to have you help to celebrate his life on October 23rd and 24th. We understand that you may not be able to attend everything but please come when you can. On Thursday, October 23, 2025, Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. followed by the Vigil Service and Rosary at 6:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. On Friday, October 24, 2025, viewing will start at 10:30am with the Funeral Mass to begin at 11:30 A.M. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1710 Clower. The Interment with Military Honors will follow at 1pm at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The celebration will continue at 323 Devine St, in the Lavaca neighborhood, downtown San Antonio. Please join the family for a Mexican Fiesta to start immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on Gilbert's memory. For family and friends traveling into San Antonio, we have blocked rooms at a special nightly rate under "Buentello Family" at the La Quinta San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel.
