In Loving Memory of Hector Homer Linares November 15, 1926 - August 28, 2023 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hector Homer Linares, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who peacefully departed this world on August 28, 2023. Hector was born on November 15, 1926, in the humble town of Cotulla, Texas. He was a man of extraordinary character and unwavering dedication, leaving behind a legacy of service and love that will be cherished for generations to come. Hector's journey in life was marked by a remarkable commitment to duty and country. During World War II, he proudly served as a 2nd Class Seaman in the United States Navy abord the USS Mullany (DD528) Destroyer and received 3 commendations for his Sea Duty: The American Area Campaign, Assistic-Pacific Ocean, and World War II Victory. He demonstrated his unwavering patriotism and bravery in defense of our nation. His dedication to preserving our freedom was a testament to his character, and he carried the experiences of his military service with him throughout his life. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Hector embarked on a successful career in the Civil Service. He demonstrated exceptional talent as an IBM computer programmer, and his work ethic was unparalleled. His dedication to excellence led to his promotion to the esteemed positions of Unit Chief and Supervisor at Kelly Air Force Base. Hector's contributions in this capacity played a pivotal role in the efficiency and success of the organization, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors. Hector also was a graduate from Saint Mary’s University. Beyond his professional achievements, Hector was known for his warm and generous spirit. He had a knack for making those around him feel valued and appreciated. His sense of humor was infectious, and his smile could brighten the darkest of days. Hector had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life, leaving a lasting impression of kindness and compassion wherever he went. Hector's love for his family was immeasurable. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Josie, and a loving father to his children, Hector L., Karen, and David. As a grandfather to Annalisa, Corrine, Jeremy, Kyle, and Christopher, And a Great-Grandfather to Damien, Gabriel, Samuel, Angelina, and Leo. Sister-in- Law Linda Hazzard and Rosie Slawinski and his Son-in-law Michael Weaver along with Daughter -in law Bonnie Linares. along with several Nieces and Nephews. He relished the opportunity to impart his wisdom and create cherished memories with his descendants. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and the delicious aroma of his signature dishes, which he lovingly prepared to share with his loved ones. In his free time, Hector enjoyed pursuing his passions, including music. In 1951 he created a musical group called the Hector Linares orchestra in which he played the lead saxophone. After his retirement from Kelly Airforce Base, and other adventures, he became a full-time teacher at Northeast Independent School District, teaching high school students the joy of woodworking. During his lifetime Hector was very passionate in helping children that were misunderstood and those with disabilities while providing his wisdom and time being a job coach to all that needed his assistance. Whether he was barbecuing in the backyard for his family or sharing stories from his Navy days, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His enthusiasm for life's adventures was infectious, inspiring those around him to embrace each day with gratitude and enthusiasm. Hector Homer Linares will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, service, and love that will continue to inspire us all. Though he has joined the Lord, his memory will forever be etched in our hearts as a shining example of resilience, strength, and unwavering devotion.
