Hilbert August Golsch August 19, 1925-April 4, 2012 He was 86 years old. Hilbert Golsch was born in his parent's farm house in Hallettsville, Texas. He attended Ward and Sacred Heart Schools. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the European Theater. Upon returning from war, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Mertz, on October 11, 1949. The first ten years of married life were in Hallettsville where four of their children were born. They moved to San Antonio in 1959, where he lived the rest of his life and their fifth child was born. Hilbert made his living in the electrical and refrigeration fields. In 1967, he went to work for the United StatesCivil Service. He also served nine years as a Catholic Knights of America board trustee in St. Louis, MO. In 1965, he and his wife took up the hobby of Square Dancing, where they traveled to many state and national conventions. Hilbert enjoyed traveling with his wife to 43 foreign countries and visited many of them numerous times, six of the seven continents, and all of the 50 states. Hilbert loved the outdoors especially fishing, hunting, and gardening. He raised and raced homing pigeons for many years as well as bred ponies, rabbits, and chickens. Hilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Mary Golsch; sister, Irene Carley; brother-in-law, August Cernoch; and great-grandson Ethan Mosman. Hilbert is survived by hiswife of 62 ½ years, Evelyn Golsch, andfive children: Deyanne Howell Lawrence, Donna Olszewski Robert, Daryl Golsch Karen, Cheryl Parks Steve, and Lynette Inglett Joseph. 17 Grandchildren: Ronald Howell Tammy, Christopher Howell April, Jayeson Howell, Michael Howell April, Bryan Nicklaus Howell Dawn, Chauncy Howell Sara, Bradley Howell, Amy Smith Paul, Christy Mosman Michael, Carrie Hunt Robert, Curtis Golsch Elizabeth, Jeffrey Golsch Mallory Shea, Shannon Parks, John Parks, Ryan Parks, Kimberly Inglett, and Daniel Inglett. Additionally, he is survived by 19 Great-Grandchildren: Tacey and Ayden Howell; Brianna Alishiaand ElizabethaTorri Howell; Tiffany, Dakota, Andi Lyn, and Lillian Howell; Hannah and Evelyn Smith; Andrew and Michelle Mosman; Katlyn and Avery Gollinger; Miley and Randy Hunt; Sarah and Grace Golsch; and Imogen Golsch. Two brothers: S.E. Golsch Mary and Ted GolschLyda; Three sisters: Evelyn Cernoch, Gertrude Shimek Roman, Beatrice Wyatt Hubbard, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church followed by a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. A 10:00 a.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Interment to follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A luncheon will follow immediately back at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Pallbearers: Christopher Howell, Chauncy Howell, Robert Hunt, Curtis Golsch, Ryan Parks, and Daniel Inglett. Honorary pallbearers are S.E. Golsch and Ted Golsch. Remembrance donations can be made in Hilbert's name to help reconstruct St. Matthew's Catholic Church at 10703 Wurzbach, San Antonio, TX 78230.
