Jack Townsend born September 1926 passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, July 30, 2016. Jack was born to Ada Ramsbottom and John Charles William Townsend in Haslingden, Lancashire, England. His paternal great grandfather, John Townsend, married to Amelia was a Weaver Overlooker who died at 90. His mother's parents were Israel and Margaret Ramsbottom. Jack is survived by his wife, Valerie Townsend; son, Michael Townsend and wife, Diane; daughter, Pauline Gervais and husband, Bill; brother, Gordon Townsend and wife Margaret; mother-in-law, Pamela Anderson; sister-in law, Teresa May and fiancée, Michael Salinas; stepsons, Lynn Mallery and wife, Sarah, David Mallery and fiancé, Erica Ramos and Gallahad Mallery and wife, Christy; grandchildren, William Pate and wife, Jackie, Michael Pate and wife, Marci and John Townsend; great grandchildren, Carmen and Juliana Pate; step grandchildren, Garrett, Clare and Liana Mallery, Scarlet and Isabel Toifl, Isaiah, Zacharias and Naomee Mallery; nephew, Mark Townsend and partner, Angela; niece, Louise Rounds and husband, Andrew; great niece Ellie; and great nephew, Rhys. Jack's family moved to Barton upon Irwell in the vicinity of Manchester, England, in 1935 where he worked at his father's fish and chip shop. In 1940, he began working at the Manchester Ship Canal at the Barton Locks. At the age of 17, Jack moved to London, began an apprenticeship with York Shipley and obtained a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering from London University. In 1949, Jack left for the Falkland Islands arriving in Montevideo, Uruguay, and taking the S.S. Fitzroy to Port Stanley. He installed a mutton freezing plant. This was a memorable event and Jack revisited this area recently on a cruise. His jobs with Stal Laval, Shell, and Frigoscandia took him around the globe including Russia, Egypt, South America, Europe, and the U.S. In 1972, Jack moved to San Antonio to work for RECO and in 1978 founded Refrigeration Systems International. He helped to install many food processing plants both in the Southern U.S. and internationally. Jack will be remembered for his generosity, his love of martinis and the professionalism with which he conducted his business. He will be loved and missed by many friends and family. SERVICES Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. The Service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 8, 2016 in the Fred J. Tips Mausoleum Chapel at Mission Burial Park Dominion North, 20900 IH 10 West. Interment will follow at the Cemetery.
