Jacques (Jack) Wilburn Hardy November 12, 1937 – July, 19, 2026 Jack was the first of four children born to Bernice A. McInvale Hardy and Vance Blake Hardy in Floresville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vance Blake Hardy, Jr; wife of 14 years, Patricia Elaine Powell Koehler Hardy; and wife of 21 years, Carolyn Sue Wallace Conder Hardy. He is survived by daughter Alta Denice Hardy and family of Pilot Point, Texas; son Jacques Wilburn Hardy, Jr and wife Emiko, of Osaka, Japan; sister Georgie Vanelle Hardy Magers and family of Boerne, Texas; and brother Charles Bert Hardy of Round Rock, Texas; step children Oscar S. Koehler, Jr. and family of Clear Lake, Texas, Clinton Shane Koehler and wife Amy of Pipe Creek, Texas, and Kevin Conder and Kelley Conder Green and family of Midland, Texas along with numerous step-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Following graduation from Brackenridge High School in 1955, he enlisted in the Navy where he served aboard submarines in San Diego, Ca. and Pearl Harbor, Hi. He made one cold-war patrol in the western Pacific before being separated from the service in 1958. He joined the Naval Reserve and retired as a Chief Torpedoman in 1985. After returning home, he briefly attended San Antonio College and worked as an insurance salesman before becoming bored. He joined the San Antonio Police Department on February 10, 1960. He worked as a Patrolman until 1963 when he was promoted to Detective-Investigator. He spent six years as a uniformed physical evidence technician and detective in the Auto Theft, Forgery, and Theft Bureaus before being promoted to Sergeant in 1969. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1972 and commanded the Criminal and General Records Bureau and founded the Data Systems Unit. When he was promoted to Captain in 1974, he merged the Data Systems Unit with the Communications Bureau. During the period from 1972 until his retirement in October, 1981, Jack developed, implemented, and managed several on-line, real-time state-of-the-art computer systems. He also co-founded and managed the San Antonio-Bexar County 9-1-1 System, served on the Governor’s Select Committee on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals, Information Systems Sub-committee and co-founded other state wide criminal justice related organizations. In 1974, Jack earned a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education degree from South Texas State University, graduating ‘With Highest Honors’. He also taught an Introduction To Computer Science course in the evening division at San Antonio College for two years. After retirement, Jack went to work for the City of San Antonio’s Information Systems Department where he served as Data Administrator, Data Security Administrator and finally as a systems developer supporting several City departments. He retired for good in 1998 and he and Sue moved to Midland, Texas where he volunteered at Meals on Wheels and other community organizations. After the untimely death of Sue in 2016, he moved back to Boerne, Texas, where he volunteered as a Meals on Wheels driver until 2024. Jack and Sue loved to travel and visited all 50 states, most countries of Western Europe, the United Kingdom and Ireland along with China, Japan, Korea, Russia and Kenya. He loved to ski and managed to go several times a year from 1982 to 2020. Golf was his second sport, which in spite of years of playing, he never mastered.
