Janie Bishop Almaraz October 6, 1931 - December 5, 2016 Janie Bishop Almaraz, 85, left this earth on Dec. 5, 2016, to begin eternity in her new home in Heaven. Janie was a beautiful and mighty woman of valor. Born on Oct. 6, 1931, in San Antonio, TX, Janie was raised on the south side in a humble home with a rich set of values and morals set by her parents, Rudolfo and Frances Bishop. Janie, the eldest of five, was a true example of love, strength and respect. Janie attended South San HS and later earned her cosmetology license. In 1952, she married Joe S. Almaraz, and had five children: Joe, Jesse, Jeanette, Julie and Johnny. She loved her children very much and inspired them to always do their best and to trust in God. Janie was a dedicated housewife and did an amazing job raising her children. Once her children were all grown up, she decided to pursue her passion in childhood development and education, and soon began working as a caregiver in children’s day care centers. She also went back to school to earn a floral design license and created many beautiful arrangements. Janie loved life and lived it to its fullest by always placing God in the center of everything. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was also devoted to her dogs and loved them very much. Janie trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and her strong faith was evident throughout her life. She lived out her faith as she shared her extravagant joy, contagious laughter, incredible compassion and amazing spirit of hope with everyone she met. Even as a cancer survivor, she was fearless when it came to trusting God. She held on to God's promises and to His perfect will. One of her favorite Bible verses was Psalm 91. Janie also loved going for long rides through downtown, as it reminded her of her youth. She enjoyed eating pancakes, ice cream and listening to music, as she rode with her daughters across the city. She also found great comfort in spending time with her family and friends. There's no doubt Janie left a giant mark of faith, hope and love in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. Janie is preceded in death by her parents Rudolfo & Frances Bishop, her brothers Rudy & Santos Bishop, and sister Angelina Luna, and her granddaughter Janell Saenz. She is survived by her husband Joe; children, Joe Jr., Jesse & Johnny Almaraz, Jeanette Saenz, Julie Wiley; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; and sister Margie Escobedo.
