Juan A. Fred Garza February 20, 1956 – January 26, 2016 Juan A. Fred Garza, age 59, was called to be with the Lord on January 26, 2016. He was born on February 20, 1956 in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Montye, his daughters - Kristin Liva and husband, Justin; Mallory Garza-Bentancourt and husband, Richard Bentancourt; and Shaina Garza. Parents Juan and Esther Garza; brothers and sisters Yolanda Garza; Rebecca Loredo and husband, Roy; Vivian Garza-Steele and husband, Robby Steele; Marcus Garza and wife, Alma; Daniel Garza and wife, Liz; Pamela Garza-McCaskill and husband, Daniel; grandchildren Kali and Freddie Liva; along with many nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. Fred graduated from John Jay High School, obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Texas A&M Kingsville. He began his career in the Harlandale School District and worked as a teacher, coach, vice principal, and human resource director. Though he retired in 2013, his passion as an educator led him to work for Texans Can Academies in San Antonio. He was a devout husband, father, educator, coach, and mentor. He was a man of honor who inspired all those around him. One could never forget his uplifting smile. He highly enjoyed family trips, which included visiting his daughters in San Diego and Dallas, and watching his youngest daughter play college volleyball in Malibu and New Orleans. He also enjoyed large family trips with his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren; recently adventuring to St. Louis to watch his favorite baseball team, the Cardinals. Fred loved to stay active by running, golfing, skiing, and ping-pong. His passion was baseball; Fred played baseball in high school and in the 1974 Big League World Series in Ft. Lauderdale. After high school, Fred continued to play baseball at Wharton Junior College. Although his college ball career was shortened due to injury, he continued his passion by coaching the Harlandale Indians from 1980-1990. Fred was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church; he was a lector and was grateful for his Men's ACTS Retreat experience. Services Visitation will be on held from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Mission Park North, 3401 Cherry Ridge, with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, at 7893 Grissom Road. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian, 11624 W FM 471
