Karen Marie Fenderbosch Casillas The Lord called Karen Marie Fenderbosch Casillas home on May 15, 2010. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1943, she was raised in San Antonio, Texas. A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, she went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. She married Ernest Casillas in 1966 and they began their life together in Napa, California. While there, she gave birth to their 3 children and pursued art classes. Upon return to San Antonio in 1972, she devoted her time to assisting her husband with his medical practice, raising the children and remodeling their historic home. In 1986, she pursued study in Biochemistry and shortly after took a position at UTHSCSA in pulmonary research. For pleasure, she was involved with the King William Association and ran the Fair Art Show for many years. She also produced many great paintings and pottery. With a great love for the hill country, she and Ernest built a home outside of Kerrville in 2006 and retired there soon after. There she enjoyed applique' quilting as well as volunteering at the Harper Library Resale Shop. Karen will be deeply missed, as she was a beloved wife, mother, and friend. She will be in our hearts always. Karen is survived by her husband Dr. Ernest Casillas, daughter Celeste Casillas, son Thomas Casillas and wife Debra, son Alex Casillas and wife Nancy, grandchildren Mary, Henry, and Lily Casillas and sister Jean Zych. Preceding her in death were parents Frances Duresky and James Fenderbosch, and sister Deborah. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Harper Library, 23797 W.
