Kenneth Dale Hicks, 80, of Somerset, Texas received his wings and peacefully went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on August 11, 2024. Dale was born on March 7, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, and the son of the late James Henry Hicks and the late Vada “Dutch” Lee West. He was the sixth of nine siblings: Callie, JC, JB, Darrell, Doris Jo, Gracie, Travis and Gary. Dale married the love of his life, Ellen Mae Stuart, on February 2, 1963. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary just before the passing of his beloved Ellen on April 11, 2023. Dale came from a family of carpenters. He left school to work and support his parents. He never let the fact that he only completed 10th grade keep him from supporting his wife and four kids and owning his own construction company with his brother JB. Over the years, he and his brothers and many nephews built homes all around San Antonio and surrounding areas. After the death of his brother JB, Dale began doing builder inspections and remodels for friends and family. Dale was an encouraging and loving father to four children: Ken (Darlene), the late Roland (Doria), Lisa (Tony) and Amy (Kevin). Grandkids are Kyle (Chelsea), Jessica (Cody), Amanda (Mark), Westley and Beth. Great grandkids are Eisley, Damien, Rowen, Casey and Harper Mae. He was there to cheer on the kids at their basketball and football games. He joined the Somerset Youth Livestock Organization (SYLO) to support the kids with their show steers, and he helped organize many street dances and the first chili cookoff for SYLO. Dale also served as mayor of Somerset, Texas from 1984 to 1986. He enjoyed making jelly with Ellen to share with friends and family, and he took great pride in building rocking horses for his grandkids and others. He loved the outdoors and visiting with family and friends. Dale and Ellen traveled many miles and made lots of great memories together and with their lifelong friends, Doug and Mary Semlinger. Earlier on, the couples traveled with the kids in tow and many more miles with just the four of them. Doug and Dale even squeezed in a few hunting trips in Wyoming and Montana and had mounts to go along with the many stories they would tell. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Somerset Baptist Church located at 19961 Somerset Road, Somerset, Texas. Immediately following, a meal will be provided for family and friends to gather in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dale’s honor to the Somerset Baptist Church and Thru The Bible at ttb.org.
