Laura Villanueva went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the age of 89. Laura was born to Simon and Emilia Arcos on October 10, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas. Laura Villanueva was a loving and devoted woman who helped raise her 10 siblings, showing strength and compassion from an early age. She dedicated many years of hard work to the San Antonio Express-News, where she built a career before retiring. In her retirement, Laura continued to give selflessly, becoming a caregiver to both her mother and her beloved husband. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—tending to her yard, planting flowers, and taking pride in maintaining her home. She also carried on with her mother’s cherished family traditions, especially the making of tamales, a labor of love that brought family together and kept her heritage alive. Above all, she cherished the time she spent surrounded by her family. Laura was blessed to witness the growth of her family across five generations, a legacy that brought her immense pride and happiness. Her love continued with her 7 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her life was one of love, dedication, and unwavering care for those around her, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Juan R. Villanueva, son Johnny A. Villanueva, grandsons, Victor Garcia, Anthony Garcia, and Rudy Martinez, and daughter in law Victoria B. Villanueva, siblings Simon Arcos, Olga Flores, Lucia Pena and Lydia Gill. Laura leaves behind 6 loving children: 3 daughters Yolanda Tovar and husband Rudy Tovar, Belinda Martinez, and Norma Jean Villanueva, 3 sons Michael Villanueva and wife Libbie, David Villanueva, and Arthur Villanueva and wife Jaine, sisters Dolores Perez, Mary Alice Arcos, and Julia Gaona, brothers Raul Arcos, Paul Arcos, Felipe Arcos, Edward Arcos, and Richard Arcos, 22 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will begin on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Brookehill Funeral Home with a rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church with a procession from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
