Margie Schweiss “Marge”, “Mom” “Gram” was a beloved mother, grandmother and wife. She was born in Pensacola, Florida to Shelly and Carlie Bray on October 4, 1940 and passed away November 10, 2021 - leaving us for a better place and joining the love of her life, Joseph P. Schweiss, Jr. who predeceased her in May, 1978. We will remember Margie for her fierce love, especially for her children, Leonard “Paul” Schweiss (predeceased her in October, 2007), Debra Schweiss and Jennifer Pleasant as well as her granddaughters, Amber and Ashley Schweiss. Margie was very well known for her straight-forward, no sugar-coating approach to life. You always got integrity and honesty from Margie. Her endearing strength was a hallmark, along with occasional stubbornness – especially when it came to her independence. Up to the very end, her comment was always “I can take care of myself”. She considered herself very lucky, living a good life - even in the face of much tragedy and heartbreak. Her strength was boundless. Margie was a homemaker for many years, until continuing her education and becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant when she became a widow. Margie had a tough exterior that protected a huge, caring heart which she shared with all the deserving people she encountered in her life. Margie was not the stereotypical TV mom, preferring to be in her jeans, outside gardening or playing sports & games with the family. She had a great sense of humor and could take a good teasing. She was always up for a trip, adventure or trying something new. She loved watching animals of all types and became especially attached to watching the activity around her bird feeders. She had several “furry babies” over the years, but her dogs Casey and Sebastian had special places in her heart. She lost one of her best friends, Casey in 2016 and Sebastian remained her constant companion to the end. Margie would not want us to be sad, but glad we had spent so many good times with her, recalling a lifetime of memories. We will always feel her strength and love – aspiring to live a good life, lucky to have known her. Services will be held on December 6, 2021 at Mission Park South, 1700 SE Military Drive, San Antonio, TX 78214. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM in the main chapel, with memorial services at approximately 10:00 AM. Directly following, we will have a final goodbye at Fort Sam Houston, her final resting place. Flowers may be sent to Mission Park South and/or tribute contributions may be made in her name to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund – curealz.org
