Maria Isabel Gill, 79, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in the city where she was born and raised. Born on November 19, 1946, in San Antonio, Maria was the daughter of Porfirio Martinez and Maria Sanchez Martinez, who preceded her in death along with her brothers Rudy Martinez, Jose Martinez, sister Mercedes Garza, and her eldest son Roy Gill Jr. Maria dedicated herself to creating a warm and welcoming home, while always placing her family at the center of her life. Her strength, resilience, and nurturing spirit were felt by all who knew her. She found purpose in caring for those she loved, and her steady presence was a source of comfort and stability. She was an active member of the Guadalupanas, faithfully serving her church and honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe with devotion and love. She is survived by her husband, Roy Gill Sr., who will forever cherish the 60 plus years they shared together; her sons Lawrence Gill (Belinda), Michael Gill (Veronica), Alejandro Gill (Margie), daughter in law Alma (Roy, dec). Grandchildren Evette Nicole Gill, Lawrence Andres Gill, Lena Aliza Carmona, Alex Gill Jr., Adam Mendoza, Clarissa Mendoza, Xavier Mendoza, Lorena Mendoza. Great grandchildren Noa Jey Gill, Lorraine Andrea Gill, Christopher, Allison, Sebastian, Mia, Roy, Max, Natalia; her two brothers Tomas and Pedro Martinez and numerous nieces and nephews. Beyond the church, she found great joy in simple pleasures. She also found joy in many creative outlets such as crocheting, sewing, and creating heartfelt, handmade gifts for her loved ones who will forever cherish her creativity and thoughtfulness. She enjoyed spending time playing cards and bingo with family and friends. She especially enjoyed visiting casinos, where her laughter and excitement were contagious. She treasured those moments of fun and togetherness. Thank you for a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Palm Heights Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Apostle Catholic Church with a procession to depart the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. Committal Service to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
