Marvin Lee Schreiber, formerly known as "Bootsie" to family members and hometown friends, was born November 7, 1930 to Willie and Hertha Schreiber of Shiner, Texas. He went to meet Jesus on January 4, 2016, at the age of 85. Marvin's parents and his brother, Harvey Schreiber, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Georgia Kouba Schreiber, his sister, Mabel Picha Raymond, of Pasadena, Texas, and his sister-in-law, Sandy Schreiber, of Houston, Texas. Marvin has seven children: Mary Lou Roemer Macon, Carol Schindler Alan, Kenny Schreiber Natalie Bruns, Patty Reyes Ken, Karen Pesek, Tim Schreiber, and Rose Stevens Michael. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive Marvin. There are numerous nieces and nephews who called Marvin "Uncle". It should be noted that every single one of the aforementioned family members believes themselves to be his favorite. Marvin is a veteran of the United States Air Force. After 4 years of honorable service, he spent 28 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Driver Improvement Officer. He made lifelong friends during that career. Even after retirement, he never let anyone forget about those credentials, often correcting the driving practices of friends and family members. A driver knew to bring his A-game if Marvin was a passenger. After his retirement from the DPS, Marvin and Georgia became fast friends with Grady and Faye Cowart of Grady's BBQ and enjoyed their time spent with the Cowarts as friends and coworkers. Marvin was a past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council 4140 and a member of Assembly 2102. He greatly enjoyed the many friendships he made in those endeavors. Visitation will take place at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Road, on Thursday, January 14th at 6:00 p.m. followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, January 15th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gregory's followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A lunch reception will then be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest Drive. In lieu of flowers, baskets will be available at St. Gregory's to receive non-perishable food items to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. Donations may also be made to Wreaths Across America or a charity of your choice. The family members extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Heights on Huebner and Gentiva Hospice who so lovingly cared for Marvin. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
