With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ofelia C. Mendez, who left this world peacefully on April 12, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on September 20, 1941, in Whitsett, Texas, Ofelia was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the beloved daughter of Felipe Caballero and Isabel Caballero, who preceded her in death along with her dear son, Frank De La Garza. Ofelia's life was a testament to love, resilience, and generosity. After relocating to San Antonio, Texas, she made it her mission to open her home and heart to all who needed support. Her unwavering devotion to her family was evident in everything she did; she always found ways to lend a helping hand and uplift those around her. She is survived by her devoted children: Robert De La Garza, George Joel Mendez, Miranda Fonseca, and Deborah Garcia, and their spouses. A proud grandmother, Ofelia leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense joy in her life. She is also survived by her beloved 3 sisters, her brother and sister in law, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply. Ofelia was known for her vibrant spirit and love for family gatherings. She was the undisputed family Boggle champion, and her laughter filled the room during game nights spent with loved ones. Each of us carries special memories of the times shared with her, moments that will forever be etched in our hearts. Her unique ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life and her commitment to creating lasting memories will be profoundly missed. A special message of gratitude is extended to her sister, Victoria García, who selflessly stepped in to care for Ofelia during her final days, ensuring that she was surrounded by love and comfort. Ofelia's life will be celebrated at Mission Park South on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 6:30P.M. Mass on Tuesday April 22, 2025 at 10:00A.M. As we gather to honor her memory, we invite all who knew and loved her to share in this tribute to a remarkable woman who touched countless lives with her kindness and grace. Though Ofelia has departed from this world, the love she shared and the lives she touched will continue to inspire all of us. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
