On Saturday, September 14, 2024, our Lord, in His great mercy, welcomed into His arms another one of His servants, Omelia Garza Villarreal. It is with profound sorrow that I, Abelardo Villarreal, and my family announce the passing of my beloved and beautiful wife, who left us peacefully at the age of 84. Omelia was an affectionate and loving mother to Dr. Alberto E. Almeida (Sandra), Belia Almeida Ornelas, Monika Villarreal Colin, and Lalo Villarreal (Alicia), a cherished grandmother to 13 boys and three girls, and survived by ten very special great-grandchildren. Omelia's love for her family was unwavering, serving as the cornerstone of her life. Her boundless compassion and incredible strength were evident in every role she played- a dedicated wife, an exemplary mother, an admired educator in the Northside ISD, and a compassionate school counselor who touched countless lives during her 35 years of service. Her life was a testament to her commitment to helping others. To me, she was everything. I loved her very much. She will be missed terribly. Not only did she succeed as a loving wife and excellent mother, but she was also very talented as a pianist and a businesswoman. I have never met someone who could play the piano as beautifully as she could. In addition to being very gifted, she was disciplined, humble, and dedicated, showing her children a work ethic illustrated by her motto: “Treat others like you want to be treated.” Her business acumen was unrivaled, as demonstrated by her success in juggling work as an educator and managing a jewelry business. Despite her heavy schedule, she managed to be an exemplary mother. She pushed me to join her; we have grown this business for forty years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmundo and Belia Cortez Garza; her brother, Edmundo; her first husband, Alberto Almeida; and numerous relatives. In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is survived by three brothers, Joel, Francisco, and Fernando Garza, including countless friends, nephews, nieces, and other relatives. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. with the rosary to begin at 6:45 p.m., at Fred Tips Mausoleum Chapel (located in the back of Mission Burial Park North Cemetery passed the creek) 20900 IH 10 West San Antonio, TX 78257 on Thursday, September 19, 2024. A funeral mass will begin at 9:15 a.m. on September 20, 2024, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks, San Antonio, TX 78232. Entombment to follow at Mission Burial Park Mausoleum.
