Patricia Sturgell Fanick of San Antonio, TX passed away August 1, 2019 at the age of 79. Pat was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on June 9, 1940 to Joseph and Hastie Marie (Miller) Sturgell. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Fanick; her parents, brothers Richard Sturgell and Donald Sturgell, and sister Betty King. Pat is survived by her brothers: Ronald Sturgell, Paul Sturgell (Sally), Joanna Zwart Hammes (Dennis), Janet Buckley (Jack), children: Mark Fanick (Beverly); Michael Fanick (Sandra) and Joanna Skinner (Gene); grandchildren: Kelly Wenzl (Aaron), Steven Fanick; Brandon Fanick; and Brittany Fanick, and numerous nieces and nephews. On December 30, 1961, Pat had married the love of her life, Johnny, after only a brief courtship of about six months. It was love at first sight. Together they raised two sons, Mark and Mike and one daughter, Joanna. They had been happily married 34 years when Johnny was suddenly called to be with the Lord. Pat poured her love and affection on her family. She was a very involved grandmother and attended every school and/or church function she could for each of her grandchildren. She loved to travel, loved to drive, played Bingo and card games such as hand & foot and UNO; and loved socializing with family and friends. She enjoyed singing and joined the choir at the Southeast Baptist Church with her favorite songs being “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pat worked alongside her husband doing various jobs at Fanick’s Garden Center. Upon the passing of her husband in 1996, she helped her sons with daily operations and then retired in 2015. Pat will forever be remembered as the hard-working loving mother, sweet grandma and caring sister who always enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at New Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care in Schertz and to Freedom Palliative Hospice Care for taking care of Pat as she battled dementia. Her caregivers learned of her love of music and how she would sing songs uplifting them with her spirit. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 11, 2019, 5:00pm - 8:00pm at Dellcrest Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, August 12, 2019 at 10:00 am at Dellcrest Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
