Robert Dale Matthews, 52, of Spring Branch, TX went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2018 while surrounded by family and close friends after a 5-month battle with cancer. He was born to John Carl Matthews and the late Janet Kay Matthews, on December 15, 1965 in New Orleans, LA. Robert graduated from Marshall high school. He was married to the love of his life, Joelle Margaret Matthews for over 30 years. Robert was met at the pearly gates with a Loop fly rod, fashionably assembled by Matthews Custom Rods with a Loop Classic 46 reel alongside a Stihl chainsaw, only the best. He was an avid fisherman who also loved to make custom fishing rods, often making them to donate to various charities including the Wounded Warrior Project, Casting for a Cause and other non-profit organizations. Robert was a devoted and loyal man, not only to his family and friends, but also to Blue Mountain Equipment, the great company he was blessed to work at for over 15 years selling Stihl products. He was a hardworking man with incredible work ethic that he passed along to his children. Robert worked in the outdoor power equipment industry from the age of 18 until the end. He was a sports enthusiast with a special love for the Astros since childhood. Robert touched many lives during his short life, whether it be as a baseball little league coach or soccer coach, he was a significant role model to people of all ages. With each cast in life he made a friend. Robert was a man of faith who loved with everything he had. He was the perfect example of a husband, father, son, brother, friend, and employee. He truly embodied what it meant to be each of these. Robert is survived by his wife, Joelle Margaret Matthews, as well as their 3 children who were his pride and joy: Laci Lee Belcher; Taylor Robert Matthews and wife, Baylee; Hunter Rachelle Sims and husband, Patrick; his first grandchild expected in March 2019; and 3 grand puppies: Fanci, Shiner and Reese. Also surviving are his 3 siblings: Wayman Peyton Matthews and wife, Teresa; Christopher John Matthews and wife, Brandie; Alisha Anne Stanley and husband, Gordon; along with loving in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, “The Musketeers”, and a host of long-time friends. The visitation will be Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 5pm to 8pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Stone Oak. The funeral will be on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 1pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Stone Oak. Graveside service at Hill Country Memorial Gardens immediately following. A reception will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church immediately following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Robert’s name to Reel Recovery or the American Thyroid Association.
