Roger W. Staley

Roger W. Staley, lovingly known as "Pa Staley" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was called home to the Lord on September 4, 2026, following a lengthy illness. He passed away peacefully with his beloved wife of 51 years, Alice, by his side. Roger was born on March 25, 1933, to Albert and Mary Schuster Staley in Eden, NY. He attended Hamburg Senior High School, and shortly after graduating, he proudly volunteered to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. During Marine Corps recruit training, Roger earned the coveted Silver Badge of Marine Sharpshooter, an accomplishment of which he remained very proud. He went on to serve as a Corporal and machine gunner during the Korean War, participating in operations against enemy forces. His military service was an important part of his life and reflected the courage, discipline, and determination that he carried with him throughout the years. After his service in the Marines, Roger continued pursuing things he was passionate about. He earned his private pilot's license, an accomplishment that brought him great pride and joy. He loved aviation and the freedom that came with being able to fly. Roger was also an avid outdoorsman. Some of his fondest memories were made hunting with his brothers in Allegheny State Park. He enjoyed the outdoors, the camaraderie of his family, and the simple pleasures that came from spending time together. Roger was a hardworking man who spent many years as a construction superintendent. He took great pride in his work and was known for being good at what he did. His career also gave him and Alice the opportunity to travel throughout the United States. Together, they visited many different places, making memories along the way and enjoying the adventures that life brought them. Roger married, Alice, on January 27, 1975. Their marriage of 51 years was built on love, companionship, and a lifetime of shared memories. Roger was devoted to Alice and to his family, and he took great pride in being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Those who knew Roger will remember most of all his witty sense of humor and his gift for storytelling. He always seemed to have a story to tell, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved listening to him. He also had a wonderfully playful side. One of his special traditions was to make up a poem for Alice every morning, a unique and loving way of making her smile and reminding her how much she meant to him. Roger worked until the age of 84, a testament to his strong work ethic and determination. Even as the years passed, he remained a man who believed in working hard, taking care of his family, and making the most of every day. Roger leaves behind a legacy that reaches across generations. He is survived by his wife, Alice Thomas Staley; his sister, Anna Mary Carroll; his children, Shari Staley, Derrick Staley, and Tami Wren; his stepchildren, Allen Kucera(Sandy), Mark Kucera (Tamie); his grandchildren, Karina Staley, Ryan Staley, Jessica Boyd(Brian), Michael Wren, Jr., Chance Kucera(Amber), Curt Kucera(Crystal), Calen Kucera,(Lukas Kucera-Sehlke); and his great-grandchildren, June Kucera, Case Kucera, Emily Kucera, Cash Kucera, Braden Kucera, and Noah Kucera-Sehlke, Logan Frazier and Carson Frazier and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Schuster Staley; his brothers, Albert Staley and Don Staley; and his sisters, Betty Fisher, Joan Hound, and Ellie Wilson. Roger will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His witty humor, colorful stories, hard-working spirit, love of the outdoors, pride in his military service, and devotion to Alice and his family will live on in the memories of those he leaves behind. His life was one of service, hard work, adventure, family, and love. From serving his country as a young Marine, to flying airplanes, hunting with his brothers, traveling the country with Alice, and telling stories to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Roger lived a life full of experiences and memories that will continue to be treasured. Though he has left this earthly life, the legacy he built and the love he gave will continue through the generations of his family. Rest peacefully, Pa Staley. You are loved, you are missed, and you will never be forgotten. The Family will receive visitors from 9:00 - 10:00 am for viewing on Friday, September 11, 2026 with a service and burial following at Mission Park Chapel and Cemetery Dominion, 20700 IH-10 West, San Antonio, TX 78257 Pallbearers will be Allen Kucera, Mark Kucera, Chance Kucera, Curt Kucera, Calen Kucera and Charlie Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandchildren, June Kucera, Case Kucera, Emily Kucera, Cash Kucera, Braden Kucera, Noah Kucera-Shelke, Logan Frazier & Carson Frazier.
