Thelma Ann Cassidy Melliff passed away at home in Covington, LA. on Sunday, March 8, 2014 at the age of 94. She was born on January 3, 1921 in Burkburnett, Texas to Robert Bruce Cassidy and Malinda Marshall Lindsay Cassidy. Thelma was raised in San Antonio and attended Harlandale High School there. She married her childhood sweetheart, Gerald Egan Melliff, on April 16, 1940 at Mission San Jose. Thelma & Gerry remained in their beloved San Antonio, except when Gerry was away for World War II, until 1954. At that point, Gerry's job took them and their two children to New Orleans. As it turned out, they spent the rest of their lives in the New Orleans area. "Teemie", as her friends called her, was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter & sister, a very good friend, a loving pet owner and a devoted Christian. Teemie loved to knit, read, macrame & make ceramics but she was happiest when the grandchildren & their friends were in her home and she could be "grandma" to each of them. A large group of children in Covington grew up with an extra "grandma" because of her! Teemie joins her parents, her brother, Edward Glenn Cassidy, her son, Garrett Egan Melliff and her best friend, Doris Bartlett Benson in Eternity. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Colley Allan of Covington, LA., 2 granddaughters, Janet Colley Morse Lenny of Covington, LA., & Elizabeth Colley Dunlap David of Dallas, TX, a grandson, Patrick Melliff of Slidell, LA., a great granddaughter, Anna Dupuy Morse, and 2 great grandsons, Grant Michael Morse and Allan Samuel Dunlap. In addition, the family of Teemie's friend, Doris Benson, was like her family too. She is survived by the following of Doris' family: her daughter, Brenda Benson Bendele of San Antonio, her grandson, Michael Bendele Tracy of Boerne, TX., & 2 great granddaughters, Lily Bendele and Zoey Bendele. The family would like to thank Carmen Viada, Nettie Brunner, Doris Adaire and Diane Rowland for their loving kindness and caring during Teemie's last months. Services A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 31 at 11 AM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South in San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, 97 Obed Magee Rd., Tylertown, MS.
