Tributes

Our beloved Yolanda Montalvo, born on January 24, 1927, entered peacefully into eternal rest on December 11, 2020. Yolanda loved to cook and bake and when she wasn't spending time in her kitchen preparing delicious meals and trying out new recipes she had seen on t.v. cooking shows, Yolanda spent much of her spare time outdoors tending her garden and admiring her flowers. Throughout her years she belonged to several garden clubs where she met many fellow gardeners who shared her interest in herbs, day lilies, roses, and African violets. Working together, Yolanda and her beloved husband, Ralph, shared an enthusiasm for gardening and their yard always featured colorful rose beds and a well manicured lawn. Her neighbors always commented on her beautiful yard. Yolanda treasured the many family celebrations she and Ralph attended, and sometimes hosted, where her children and grandchildren shared stories and the latest happenings. The gatherings also provided an opportunity for her grandchildren to entertain her and Ralph with their games and talents. Because Ralph was in the military, Yolanda moved with him to each new assignment and made many friends in each of these new locations. In later years, they were able to enjoy vacation travel to their favorite spots and had a special fondness for the sites and ocean views in California. Yolanda kept in touch with her children, close relatives, and friends through regular phone conversations, which always brightened her days. Yolanda was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ralph, her parents, William and Carmen Celis, her brothers George and Francisco Celis, and grandson Brian Hernandez. Yolanda is survived by her seven children Carla, Celeste, Ralph Jr., Michele, Andrew, Edward, Ana, and her siblings, William Celis, Jr. and Sr. Mary Paulette Celis, CDP, as well as her nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Yolanda will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and her warm sense of humor and comforting presence will be missed tremendously. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, December 18th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
